THE VILLA at a Glance

* This area is accessed by a steep wooden staircase and the headroom is low at the top of the stairs. Unsuitable for anyone with mobility challenges or children and we ask that guests treat this as a private area and do not use it unless we are present. There is an alternative dedicated Reiki/massage room available when the house is being used for bed and breakfast or retreat guests but this is where we store all our personal items when the villa is rented as a whole.

** We have two beautiful part-Siamese cats (spayed females) and although they are trained to live outdoors mostly, we do not want to introduce other pets to the house. We are very happy for our cats to have company and to be allowed in the main house. The black one 'POPO' (Swahili for bat ears!) with a blue circular disk on her collar comes and goes through a cat flap into the living area - she tends to be out all night and only comes in for food and siestas! The white one with tiger stripes (very pretty, called 'NARLA' as per the tiger in the Lion King) will never come into the house and you may not see much of her as she has her own flap into the laundry room where she is fed. There is an automatic feeder and otherwise they are taken care of by the gardener. Please don't feed with scraps of any kind, least of all at the table - they get plenty of food and they hunt! Thank you.

VILLA DESCRIPTION for Private Villa rental guests

Our house is just outside Orgiva (15-20 minutes walk) in the Tijola area and is set in the country within a walled garden in a small residential enclave, private and quiet, with a delightful garden and large swimming pool (just over 12 x 6 m). Part of the house is over 200 years old, so it has character - a wonderful beamed ceiling in the living area reaching up over a mezzanine gallery at the end of the dining area. It had always been a primary home until we bought it so we have refurbished it in keeping with its original farmhouse style, leaving the kitchen and bathrooms just as they were except for a few improvements. The furnishing style is a Moroccan/Far Eastern fusion with splashes of Spanish colour in the crockery and china all put together with touches of English country house.

We have four bedrooms and bathrooms of which only three of each are for rent. There is no 'Master' bedroom as such but perhaps the nicest room is in a wing with its own outside entrance. We call this the Yellow Room because that's the way it was when we bought it - a virulent yellow. Now the walls are white (as they are throughout the house) and it is furnished from the Far East with wood and rattan furniture and a lovely wall hanging from India. The colours of the soft furnishings are soft beige, browns and green, which tones with the tiles in the en suite shower room. Windows to the front open to a garden/pool view and those to the side look out to the main patio with fish pond and covered dining area. The bed is king sized and suitable for tall people (150 cms wide by 200 cms long).

In the main house, the double front doors lead into a hall area (with corner desk) which is arched through to the sitting room with a large open fireplace and a wood beam ceiling with ceiling fan and a door to the outside dining area and patio. The dining area extends from the sitting room and is very spacious with a natural wood dining table (seats 10) and chairs from India. There is a wood burning stove at the far end, and windows looking out to the garden and pool. Steep wooden stairs lead to a mezzanine gallery where we have created a private meditation area. We are a Reiki family so this is a perfect space for being alone or with others in Reiki but there is a very low ceiling in parts so the area is not included in the rental without prior permission (and I am afraid you will have to sign a disclaimer). There is a treatment couch for Reiki but this is put away unless you are a Reiki practitioner. When we have bed and breakfast guests or for Reiki retreats, we have another dedicated space for Reiki and massage but when the villa is rented as a whole this room is locked up and used for private storage. There are Reiki, massage, acupuncture and reflexology practitioners in the area who would be happy to visit during your stay. The living area has electric heating as well as the open fire and wood burner.

The kitchen is fully fitted and superbly equipped with high quality cooking equipment and utensils. Cutlery and crockery is set up for 10 people and there are masses of glasses as well as good quality plastic glasses for use around the pool. There is a dishwasher but water is very precious so even we don't use the dishwasher unless we are entertaining, and we would ask the same of you. Indeed we try to throw all 'grey' water from washing up into the garden when it's cold. A ceiling fan helps to keep the cook cool in high summer although there is usually a nice breeze coming up through the valley.

Off the living area an archway leads through to the two bedrooms in the main house. One is the 'main' air-conditioned bedroom with a king size bed (150 x 190 cms), a range of open cupboards, shelves and a vanity area. There is also a large chest of drawers. The soft turquoise green furnishings are from The Pier and Peter Jones in London, which are set off with vibrant wall hangings from India and a wonderful sunflower tapestry from France. There is a bathroom next door with walk-in shower cubicle, basin and a corner bath (not for use due to water being too precious).

The third bedroom can be used as a twin (two single beds 90 x 190 cms) or a large king size bed (180 x 190 cms). There is a built in hanging cupboard, a separate built in vanity unit with tiled top and a chest of drawers. Soft furnishings are in vibrant pink from The Pier and Peter Jones. One of the windows looks out onto a pretty rear courtyard with a tangerine tree, which drips with fruit ready to eat in December and January.

All bathrooms have a heated towel rail and there is air-conditioning in each bedroom. The outside bedroom also has a ceiling fan. There is Satellite TV (Free View only) which gets all the main British television programmes (BBC, ITV, Channel 4) with DVD/video player and a CD/Tape player. We have cards, Scrabble and Pictionary.

Outside the living areas there is large paved patio with a covered dining area shaded by a wonderful old olive tree. There is an outdoor fridge and a built in barbecue. The swimming pool is surrounded with wide terracing and the lawned garden is laid to lawn with colourful shrubs, flowers and fruit trees. There are sun loungers and ample assorted terrace furniture. There is a log store around the back of the house and an air-conditioned/heated laundry room with washing machine and dryer which may be used on request for up to two loads a week for personal laundry.

The house is furnished and equipped as a primary home so we are only interested in renting a few weeks a year to caring and appreciative guests. Otherwise, we are delighted to welcome up to four bed and breakfast guests for short breaks, and 4-day Reiki Shares (Usui Shiki Ryoho). See our B&B page.

Children and Pets
Our home is not suitable for children (except occasionally by special permission). We do not accept pets.
